Scouting has been around since Lord Robert Baden-Powell founded the movement in 1907.
There is a lot of information available on the internet, books, documentaries, and “common knowledge” but all having a wide variety of stories behind different facets of the movement. (see the history of the woggle as an example)
I have found the best source of information is from the Scouts and Guides Historical Society.
